Drummer Survival

About Drummer Survival

Drummer Survival is a beginner-first drumming resource for your first 0–12 months behind the kit — how to start, what to practice, how to fix the problems everyone hits, and which gear is actually worth buying. No gatekeeping, no jargon for its own sake.

Who this is for

Adult and teen beginners teaching themselves, or supplementing lessons. If you have been playing for years, some of this will be too basic — and we will say so on the page.

Our editorial standards

  • Answer first. We lead with the answer, then explain, so you are not scrolling past a life story to get help.
  • Honest over impressive. We name real tradeoffs and tell you when a cheaper option — or no purchase at all — is the better call.
  • Grounded. Gear picks come from real specs and buyer reviews; see how we choose gear.
  • Clear about affiliate links. Some links earn us a small commission at no cost to you; it never changes our picks.

Who writes this

Sashkofounder & writer.

I'm not a pro drummer — I'm a beginner myself, learning to play and building the resource I wish I'd had on day one.

I'm a researcher by nature. So instead of guessing, I read the manuals, the method books, the forums and the reviews, then write down what actually helped — and flag what didn't.

Everything here is checked against real sources before it goes live. If a claim can't be backed up, it doesn't get published.

This site is the space I'm making for my own first year behind the kit — and hopefully yours too.

That's the honest version: this is a beginner writing for beginners, not an expert talking down. What makes it trustworthy isn't a résumé — it's that every claim is sourced and checked, and the tradeoffs are named. See how we choose gear.
